Inside Pro Wrestling #32
10.30.2009 This Past week in Pro Wrestling News.

Here at SBWA we believe your training does'nt end after the in-ring class. To be the man you should be informed, and to be informed is one key to your success. Here's a little bit of what went down this past week in wrestling. This is just a tid bit, so go out there and get informed!

www.f4wonline.com and
The Wrestling Observer Reports:

-Mick Foley on his myspace page talks about the roast for Terry Funk held on Saturday night. He talked about meeting Billy Robinson for the first time at the convention, and said it was the first time he'd been at a roast but may also be the last time, as he wasn't happy with some of the meanness involved. He said he didn't find jokes about J.R.'s Bell's Palsy, Magnum T.A.'s paralysis or the death of Patrick Swayze all that funny, plus felt the mean spirited nature of the jokes about Missy Hyatt ended up as overkill. I'm just glad I wasn't there, because I can't even imagine finding a joke about Magnum T.A's paralysis funny at any point, let alone any jokes or Ross or Swayze this week.

-Both ROH and Dragon Gate will be doing shows in Phoenix on WrestleMania week. We don't have details of the Dragon Gate shows, but have confirmation of them. ROH today announced a 3/26 show as well as a 3/27 afternoon show (so it ends before the Hall of Fame ceremony) at Phoenix College. Tickets go on sale on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at www.rohwrestling.com.

-According to a report by Prowrestling.net, head of TNA creative Vince Russo and current TNA World Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles had a rather heated argument at last week's TNA Impact TV tapings in Orlando, FL. Styles was said to be upset with the way he was being booked by Russo in that it was portraying him as a weak champion and was also not a fan of the way Samoa Joe and Frankie Kazarian (Suicide) were being booked as well. Russo stood his ground and made mention that he was the person who made the call to put the title on Styles in the first place. Were told the argument was so heated that some people backstage had to step in.

-Edge on Bubba the Love Sponge last week said his Achilles tendon injury was by far the most painful of his career. He said he was surprised to hear about Shane McMahon leaving the company but said he imagined it would be hard to be the son of Vince. He said he'd only seen Vince let his guard down to two people, Hulk Hogan and Undertaker. I know a lot of people who think they've gotten a chance to see the real Vince McMahon but I always wonder.

-Nigel McGuinness signed a two-year deal with TNA this week after WWE rescinded their contract offer to him. WWE requires all new talent to undergo a battery of tests, including brain and heart scans, drug tests, etc. Nigel didn't fail the drug test, but in an aside, and this should tell you something about how WWE scouts talent, there have been several guys signed in the last few years who had their offers pulled because they couldn't pass their steroid tests. The company felt Nigel was too beaten up, which is scary enough when you think about it, though the exact reason for his failure was not released.

-Rey Bucanero is still out with a torn ACL but said rehab is going great and he hopes to be cleared by his doctor by December. He said he wouldn't be back into the ring until 2010, though, because he wanted to be in shape before returning to action.

-Perro Aguayo Jr. said AAA was threatening legal action against Alebrije, Histeria, Psicosis and Tirantes for trying to use those names (which AAA owns) on Perros del Mal TV. He said if AAA sued they'd file a countersuit.

-ROH announced this year's WrestleMania festivities with shows in Phoenix on March 26th at 8 p.m. and March 27th at 2 p.m. (so as not to interfere with the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony) at the Phoenix College North Gym. Tickets were scheduled to go on sale October 28th at noon Pacific.

-Gunnar Eudy, the 16-year-old son of Sid Vicious, is already training to wrestle and has been doing the Lord Humongous gimmick on small-time indies, which of course his father used when he first broke in. He's done a couple of matches teaming with Scott Hall, who is, in fact, still around. He's a huge kid, nearly as tall as his father, and he's getting bigger and bigger. Sid has another son, Frank, but he has no interest in becoming a wrestler and is studying to become a cop. Gunnar wants to go to WWE someday as a babyface but will be OK working as a heel if that's what they want him to do.

-Dixie Carter at the press conference in Madison Square Garden just made the announcement of Hogan signing with TNA. Spike TV people are now speaking at the press conference.
Eric Bischoff was also at the press conference confirming signing with TNA.

Hulk Hogan has signed with TNA and is bringing Eric Bischoff and Jason Hervey with him. More as the day rolls on. Hogan was asked about Vince Russo and said as long as Russo knew his place in the company everything would be fine. So this isn't a death knell for him yet. It was insinuated that Hogan would be a major on-screen character but would not wrestle regularly

-As expected with Jim Ross out, Matt Striker is being moved to Smackdown to work with Todd Grisham starting tonight.
Josh Matthews and Byron Saxton will be announcing on ECW. Saxton, who has been doing the announcing in Florida Championship Wrestling, looks and sounds remarkably like The Rock.

-Brutal Bob Evans is attempting to set a record for the most consecutive 60 minute matches in one week in New England history. He will do six different Iron Man matches billed as Iron Week. He will do an Iron Man match with Dan Freitas on 11/15 in Fall River, MA, face Billy King on 11/16 in Springfield, MA, face Matt Taven on 11/17 in Quincy, MA, face Nick Westgate on 11/18 in Taunton, MA, face Brian Fury on 11/19 in Lowell, MA and face Mike Bennett on 11/20 in Carver, MA

-Hustle president Nobuo Yamaguchi announced on 10/28 that the promotion was folding. He made the announcement that they were out of money, and could no longer pay the staff and the wrestlers. He said that the scheduled 10/29 show at Korakuen Hall was canceled, as are all the rest of the shows on the schedule

-Eric Young underwent throat surgery on 10/28 at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. Young has a similar throat problem as the late Brian Pillman, in which he had multiple surgeries as a child which resulted in the unique voice he has (actually I think a positive for wrestling because its different) but every few years it seems a new surgery is needed. His last operation was in 2006 and he nearly died before that surgery.

-Tara of TNA had two moles removed and said it was from doing too much tanning. She went on her twitter and warned people not to bake themselves in the sun.

-Sting is not scheduled to return for a while.

-Jay Lethal suffered a pulled hamstring on the 10/24 house show in Racine

-Rhino and Kip James went to the University of Wisconsin vs. Minnesota State game on 10/24 to shoot off the cannon after a touchdown. They were introduced as WWF stars Billy Gunn and Rhino.

-Backstage at Smackdown, the wrestlers were playing down the Hogan thing. They talked about it, but it was more of how can Hogan help TNA, who can he work with, hes not going to put anyone over type of talk. Vince, between Shane quitting and finding out Hogan was going to TNA, was in a bad mood.

-The general reaction from WWE wrestlers has been that Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff will ruin TNA and it was something that got a decent amount of talk at TV on Tuesday, but nobody seemed overly concerned. Vickie Guerrero on facebook wrote, "Hulk can kiss my ass! He will use TNA as well!"

-Dragon Gate has shows tonight in Barcelona, Spain with Naruki Doi & Masato Yoshino & BxB Hulk vs. Cima & Susumu Yokosuka & Kagetora and Shingo Takagi & Dragon Kid vs. Matt & Nick Jackson. They run Saturday night in Oberhausen, Germany with Takagi vs. Absolute Andy, Mike Quackenbush vs. Cima and Dragon Kid vs. Yoshino vs. Yokosuka vs. El Generico. 11/1 in Oxford, England has Doi & Hulk & Pac vs. Cima & Nick & Matt Jackson, Dragon Kid vs. Yoshino and Takagi vs. Yokosuka wXw expects the largest crowd in the history of the promotion in the Oberhausen show (thanks to Timo Knopf)

-Fog City Wrestling runs at the Cow Palace in San Francisco on Friday night for a Halloween party including a Battle Royal, a coffin match, a Hardcore match with Necro Butcher and a tables tag team match

-Indie wrestler Brian Logan has finished an autobiography called "Worker: Last of a Dying Breed" about growing up in a small town in West Virginia and eventually making it in SMW, as well as talks about brief appearances on WCW and WWF television. Jim Cornette does the foreword. Book will be available next month on amazon.com
